The AAA Safety Foundation says that nearly 1500 people are killed annually in hit-and-run accidents in the United States.  Hit-and-run accidents present an obvious difficulty, to wit: the driver often goes unidentified, which makes justice for the victim much more difficult to achieve.  People who are involved in, or even just witness hit-and-run accidents can help by making an effort to notice as much as they can about the vehicle and driver, and contact police to give as much information as possible.  Obviously, the ideal information would be license plate number, but any information may be helpful.  A description of the car will help.  Again, ideally you might have noticed the make and model, but even if you only noticed the color and whether it was big or small, old or new, or some potentially identifiable characteristic like that it was rusty, that can be helpful.  Any description of the driver can also be helpful.  Remember, even if you are not involved in the accident, and don’t know anyone who was, in the spirit of everyday heroes like PFC Delgado, any help you can give the victim is a credit.
