Woman Learns to Live With Brain Injury | Seattle Brain Inury Attorney
AppId is over the quota
As a Seattle brain injury attorney, I am aware that brain injuries can be some of the most devastating and painful injuries one can endure. Brain injuries can occur in many different ways but most often they are a result of a direct force to the head. However, that is not always the case. The NPR.org website recently reported a tragic story about a woman who suffered a traumatic brain injury due to a complication during surgery. Gweneviere Mann experienced a stroke during an operation in 2008 to remove a brain tumor and has suffered from short term memory loss ever since. It is now difficult for Mann to remember even the tiniest of details of her day and ultimately her life. Things that we all take for granted on a day to day basis such as today’s date and remembering when to eat lunch, is a constant struggle that Mann now has to face. With tricks such as keeping note cards in her pockets reminding her about the events that she has completed throughout the day helps maintain continuity throughout her daily life. Mann also participates in marathons with her boyfriend to encourage herself to remain positive and optimistic about what abilities she does still possess. Even though this is a frustrating and discouraging situation, Mann is determined to fight and persevere through her disability.
Doctors say that the brain is able to heal itself up to two years after the injury and after that any symptoms are most likely to remain permanent. In this case it has been beyond that two year mark and Mann has accepted that short term memory is going to be the norm from now on. Mann does not struggle with any other symptoms and presents as a very normal woman in every other aspect of her life. Because brain injuries vary in location and severity it can be very difficult to determine treatment for recovery.

Seattle Pedestrian Accident Lawyer | Woman Struck By Smart Car
AppId is over the quota
As a Seattle pedestrian collision attorney, I realize that walking in a vehicle dominated society can be very dangerous. According to the Seattle Police Department Blotter, on the morning of October 17th, an elderly pedestrian was hit by a Smart car. The Smart Car driver, a 29- year-old woman, was traveling southbound on 18th Ave, when a 73-year-old woman who was walking eastbound in the crosswalk was struck by the car. The pedestrian was unconscious when help arrived and was transported by Seattle Fire Department to Harborview Medical Center for medical treatment, her injuries were unknown. The police are ruling alcohol out as a factor but are still investigating the incident. Pedestrians have rights just as other drivers on the road do and I will commit to fighting for your rights.
Pedestrian collisions can be the fault of a pedestrian infraction or the negligence of the driver. According to Walking in Seattle, the Seattle Department of Transportation said in 2009 that there were 479 pedestrian collisions in Seattle that year. The most common pedestrian infractions were jaywalking and failure to use crosswalks. Although these were common among the pedestrians, the drivers were most often to blame with failure to yield to the right of way to pedestrians. Pedestrians need to be careful and be mindful of the laws just as much as drivers need to be.
If you or a family member have been injured in a Seattle pedestrian collision, you need the professional services of a dedicated Seattle pedestrian collision attorney. The Seattle Fire Department was called to contribute, to lift the car from which they and she was transported to Harborview Medical Center with minor injuries, but it was the story told of the SPD, which makes this story really incredible,.
Police are not sure whether drugs or alcohol were involved, in this story, but from what they could, it seems as if the young woman was very excited about something and decided to take a seat and put down to gather in the parking lot. Not, was her boyfriend, with whom they fight outside try to reassure that she saw an oncoming vehicles as he. He ran on the car to warn the man over his girlfriend, who were on the ground. The danger of drinking and driving cannot be overstated. As a Seattle car accident lawyer, I see entirely too many cases of people whose lives have been turned upside down by drunk drivers. Late Sunday night, Candice Baima of Gig Harbor lost her life after a head-on collision with a 63-year-old driver who is believed by state troopers to have been under the influence, according to KIROTV.com. Ms. Baima died at the scene of the accident, and her 14-year-old daughter, who was in the car with her, was taken to Mary Bridge Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to St. Joseph Hospital.
As is the case in many fatal car accidents, this tragedy has left at least one child without a mother. Ms. Baima’s family can never replace the loss that it has suffered, and certainly their focus at this terribly difficult time will be on mourning the loss of a loved one. Sadly, they are not alone. Let me tell you that it doesn’t take my being a Seattle personal injury to know that throwing a fit and laying down in the middle of a parking lot at 1 am is not a good way to make yourself visible to drivers.
Yesterday morning Seattle police were called to an apartment complex to handle a disturbance and they were met with the most unlikely of scenes. Seattle Personal Injury Lawyer | Hero Recognized by Woman Hit by Van
AppId is over the quota
As a Seattle hit-and-run accident attorney, I see all too frequently the damage that can result from people’s lack of care, and compounded by the lack of responsibility to stick around when causing an accident. Hit-and-run accidents can cause terrible damage in the lives of victims, with no one to take accountability for the action. KOMOnews.com reported on Tuesday about a hit-and-run accident in Lakewood in which, although the person who left the scene was not identified, the woman involved in the crash was saved by a stranger who happened to walk by. Mary Healey was pinned against her van when a pick-up truck tore through a pump at the gas station where she was filling her tank. She was pinned against her van with her foot pinned to the curb. Private First Class Jose Delgado, an army medic at nearby Joint Base Lewis-McChord used a belt and some duct tape to save Ms. Healey’s foot, and her life. Although I see many terrible accidents in my work as a car accident lawyer, I wish that I saw more regular people like PFC Delgado taking the role of hero.
The AAA Safety Foundation says that nearly 1500 people are killed annually in hit-and-run accidents in the United States. Hit-and-run accidents present an obvious difficulty, to wit: the driver often goes unidentified, which makes justice for the victim much more difficult to achieve. People who are involved in, or even just witness hit-and-run accidents can help by making an effort to notice as much as they can about the vehicle and driver, and contact police to give as much information as possible. Obviously, the ideal information would be license plate number, but any information may be helpful. A description of the car will help. Again, ideally you might have noticed the make and model, but even if you only noticed the color and whether it was big or small, old or new, or some potentially identifiable characteristic like that it was rusty, that can be helpful. Any description of the driver can also be helpful. Remember, even if you are not involved in the accident, and don’t know anyone who was, in the spirit of everyday heroes like PFC Delgado, any help you can give the victim is a credit.
Many times, recovering compensation after a hit-and-run accident is difficult, and it may seem impossible. If you have been the victim of a hot-and-run, speak with an attorney about your options; you may have more than you realize. Jason Epstein is an aggressive, experienced Bellevue hit-and-run accident lawyer who will work hard to get justice, and recover compensation for your damages. For more information, and a FREE CONSULTATION, contact Jason at Premier Law Group at (206)285-1743.

Woman Killed, Six Others Injured In Grand Prairie Wreck
AppId is over the quota
Posted On: September 19, 2011 by Mark A. Anderson
Most of us don’t even think about how dangerous it is to get in the car and head out somewhere. We just don’t think about it. We do it every day, and yet we rarely stop to think that we’re really putting our lives at risk every time we are either a passenger or a driver on the roads of Dallas-Fort Worth. As a North Texas personal injury lawyer, I know that deadly wrecks happen throughout DFW on a daily basis. Some are caused by drunk drivers, but not every crash is the cause of such gross negligence.
On Saturday afternoon, for example, Juana Mancilla, 71, of Grand Prairie, was killed in a fatal two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Dickey Road and Texas 161 in Grand Prairie. Mancilla was a passenger in an SUV which allegedly ran a stop sign putting in the path of a van which hit its side. According to police, Mancilla was ejected from the SUV which then rolled over, landing on top of her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both the driver of the SUV, Jose Cruz Mancilla, 41, and the driver of the van, Billy Bannister, 71, as well with four additional passengers in the SUV were taken to hospital by ambulance to be treated with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
I don’t want to speculate on the cause of this terrible accident, since clearly as a passenger in the SUV, Mrs. Mancilla had no control over the vehicle she was riding in at the time of the collision. Naturally, my thoughts and sympathies go out to all those who were hurt in the wreck, as well as their loved ones.
Unfortunately, while it does not appear that there was any significant negligence prior to this accident taking place, it goes to show just how suddenly and without warning an auto accident can occur. We should all realize that getting behind the wheel is the most dangerous thing we do every single day. And we should all resolve to take much greater care while driving around DFW.
Jamesburg Woman Dies in Vehicle Rollover

Nicole Gandy, 24, of Jamesburg, died on Tuesday, September 13, when her vehicle flipped over on the New Jersey Turnpike in South Brunswick. Ms. Gandy was traveling northbound in a Ford Explorer and crashed north of exit 8A, just a few miles from her home.
According to police reports, Gandy suffered fatal injuries from being ejected from the vehicle. Police claim the vehicle overturned for unknown reasons.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Nicole Gandy at this very difficult time. We would like to express how truly sorry we are for their loss.
Vehicle Rollover Statistics
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), sport utility vehicles roll over and injure their passengers more than automobiles due to their weight and height. Vehicles can roll over while trying to avoid an object, or merely from taking a sharp turn. When a vehicle rolls over passengers can suffer catastrophic injury from the impact. Brain injury, spinal cord injury, and death are common during rollovers.
Because of a higher than normal incidence of rollovers and due to request from consumers and public advocacy groups, many manufacturers have put vehicle stability systems in vehicles to reduce rollovers. Safety standards make it imperative that all vehicles have this technology by 2012. In addition, by 2013 all vehicle manufacturers must adhere to stronger roof strength standards to reduce the incidence of roof crush.
Manufacturers have a responsibility to ensure that the drivers of their vehicles are not exposed to unreasonable danger. If you or someone you love has been injured in a rollover accident, the manufacturer of the vehicle may be responsible. Contact a NJ car accident lawyer to discuss your legal options.
New Jersey Woman Killed in DUI Accident
AppId is over the quota
A New Jersey woman was killed in a DUI accident on I-295 in West Deptford on September 17. Jenita Noel was killed when the car she was riding in lost control and hit a retaining wall. The crash left the vehicle’s four occupants trapped. Emergency crews pried them free.
Police say the car’s driver, Karon Blanton, was driving under the influence (DUI) on a suspended license. Blanton faces vehicular homicide charges and is being held on a $250,000 bond. The vehicle’s other occupants, Rudolph Curby and Corey Kersey, were treated at area hospitals.
We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Ms. Noel, and our sympathy goes out to her family. We wish Mr. Curby and Mr. Kersey a speedy recovery from their injuries.
The Danger of Driving Drunk
Research shows that driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 can increase stopping distance by four feet – and that distance can increase the more a person drinks. But research also shows that over 17 million people drive drunk each year, and that another 17 million accept a ride from someone that they believe is drunk.
As the crash that killed Jenita Noel demonstrates, driving drunk or accepting a ride from a drunk driver can have tragic consequences. For his decision to take the wheel, Mr. Blanton is facing prison time. The price Ms. Noel paid was much higher.
