Costa Mesa Man Killed in BMW and Train Collision

October 3, 2011-According to reports a Costa Mesa man was killed in a train collision Sunday night. According to authorities a Costa Mesa man identified as Christopher Lee Pantoja Sampayan age 31 was killed when the BMW he was driving was struck by a train and dragged approximately one half mile in Riverside.

According to Riverside Police Lt. Andy Flores said the cause of the crash is still under investigation. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office, stated Monday the man purposely put his car on the tracks. According to witnesses the rail road crossing arms were working at the time of the collision.

Police were alerted about the crash by an onboard reporting system of the BMW that reported to the company that the airbags were deployed. The company attempted to contact the driver and got no answer. They reported it to police at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Police found the BMW embedded on the front of an eastbound BNSF train approximately one half mile from the Adams Street Crossing, where the collision occurred.
