With the amount of daylight quickly diminishing there are far more hours during the day when it is more dangerous for pedestrians to be out on the road. As a Seattle pedestrian accident lawyer I know how important it is for pedestrians to do everything they can to make themselves visible to drivers. Let me tell you that it doesn’t take my being a Seattle personal injury to know that throwing a fit and laying down in the middle of a parking lot at 1 am is not a good way to make yourself visible to drivers.

Yesterday morning Seattle police were called to an apartment complex to handle a disturbance and they were met with the most unlikely of scenes. A 21-year-old woman, who has not yet been named, was trapped underneath a car that had run her over, dragging her several feet. The Seattle fire department was called to help lift the car off of her and she was transported to Harborview Medical Center with minor injuries, but it was the story told to the SPD that makes this story truly unbelievable.

Police are unsure if drugs or alcohol were involved in this story but from what they have been able to gather it seems as though the young woman was extremely upset about something and decided to throw a fit and lay down in the parking lot. Her boyfriend, with whom she wasn’t fighting, was outside trying to calm her down when he saw an oncoming vehicle. He ran towards the car to warn the man about his girlfriend who was on the ground. But the driver thought the man was trying to attack him so he pressed on the gas, running over the woman.

As a Bellevue pedestrian accident injury lawyer I can’t stress enough how important it is to stay safe on the roads and to be as visible as possible. As of right now none of us know why this woman was on the ground, but I can’t come up with a single reason that would make her behavior acceptable.
