July 9, 2010 There are many factors that investigate Louisiana health authorities if it will have the recent deepwater horizon oil spill on human health effects. Air quality and skin contamination are the obvious impact is explored, but now mental health of residents on the Gulf Coast is always cause for concern.

A $ 10 million funding request has been brought to help the State of Louisiana "Louisiana spirit" outreach teams, a division of the Louisiana Department of health and hospitals - Office of mental health provide. The program was implemented after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 against the mental health consequences of the disaster.

Now as U.S. Louisiana faces still a further disaster officials fear that an increase of stress, fear, domestic violence, substance abuse, depression and suicide a result may be. Cases of Gulf residents, the mental health conditions have already surfaced. One of the more widely known is suicide by William Kruse, an Alabama boat captain, whose Charta-Boot-Geschäft in danger by the oil spill was.

The $10 million would come from BP, even though it is unclear whether the funds from the 20 billion dollar fund for the settlements and compensation for victims of the spill would be affected, or whether they would be part of the growing expenditure of cleaning efforts.

Doctors in Louisiana spirit program are optimistic that BP is their need for honor and the means to protect of the citizens of Louisiana from the psychological effects that may be required to provide the spill.

Similar as in other traumatic events that lead to future mental health problems we can, such as post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), can see more cases of mental afflictions 10 or 20 years on the way of current Gulf Coast residents. This can cause an increase in the medical malpractice cases when doctors incorrectly diagnose and treat these conditions.
