Portland cracks down on distracted drivers

Since distracted continue, have to be more taboo, cities and States across the country to enact laws against dangerous practice, administration leads to about 6,000 deaths per year according to the national highway traffic safety. In the spring of 2010, for example, security entered minded States such as California in the implementation of the State of Oregon law driving distracted, a hands-free. But 18 months later Oregonians still drive distracted, what the Portland Police Department, under the administration of Mayor Sam Adams, increase caused, that the regulation with the first regular State police for distracted drivers patrols.
"With a cell phone behind the wheel of your car turns into a loaded weapon", said Adams. "This summer, the city of Portland makes a point that SMS and talking on cell phones is fatal - designed specifically for teens." He is absolutely right. But even if drivers know that driving dangerous - is distracted now the number one killer of teen drivers - many simply can not shake the habit. This is why safety advocates and police departments think that increased regulation could make all the difference, such as with seat belts a decade ago.
Portland has already that increases distracted regulation drivers in the first months of the year 2011, following the example of pilot distracted driving programs in Syracuse, New York and Hartford, CT. 2010, all year round, Portland police 5,759 tickets and 430 distraction warnings to the driver output. So far in this year, the Department issued 1,911 tickets, an 18 percent increase during this time last year.
One reason for the continued use of mobile phones behind the wheel is a gap in the law, to be able to use work with the driver on your mobile phone use. Portland police traffic Division Captain Todd Wyatt told the Oregonian, that drivers can easily get out of a ticket, if they go into court and say that they have been cited for a business call. "If a loophole which broadly enough to a truck ride, we have", said he, "it is hard to enforce the Statute."
Fortunately the increased regulation comes together the distracted driver with revisions that distracted driving law, which would fill this gap. But in the meantime, if you live in Portland, or here in the Bay area, it is best to avoid dangerous driving, or any interaction with law enforcement authorities. Simply place the phone while you're behind the wheel.
