Georgia Youth Baseball Still Using Metal Bats Despite Dangers

Georgia Youth Baseball Still Using Metal Bats Despite Dangers

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Aluminum bats have long been a standard piece of sports equipment in Atlanta high schools and little league baseball leagues throughout Georgia. The bats are lighter than wooden bats making it easier for high school athletes to hit home runs.

However, these metal bats can act like a trampoline when the ball comes off the bat, and cause catastrophic head injuries to players in the field. A baseball can travel at speeds in excess of 130 mph when it comes off of a metal bat and cause permanent catastrophic head injuries when the baseball strikes a player in the head, which can lead to permanent impairment of mental functioning including loss of communication ability, sensation and cognitive skills.

Some states have considered the issue of banning metal bats because of the risk of serious injury. The problem with metal bats is that the ball comes off a metal bat at higher rates of speed than a wooden bat. Metal bats used in Georgia youth baseball leagues can tragically cause fatal injuries as well as catastrophic head injuries, including leaving a baseball player in youth and high school leagues in a persistent vegetative state.

The manufacturer of a metal bat can be liable for injuries that result from failing to provide adequate warnings regarding the potential dangers. An example is a verdict of $850,000 awarded to a family of a high school boy in a Montana case against Louisville Slugger for failure to warn of the increased velocity associated with the metal bat. The boy was pitching and had no chance to react because of the speed the ball was traveling when hit. Reports indicate that the ball struck the boy in the head and was propelled as far as fifty feet in the air after striking the boy in the head. The boy immediately suffered seizures and died later that day.

There has been an increasing push to ban metal bats in youth leagues in response to incidents like these. Some sports leagues have taken it upon themselves to ban the metal bats to avoid such tragic injury. These tragic accidents are all the more heartbreaking because the only reason to use the metal bats instead of wooden bats is to hit more home runs. A higher number of home runs would seem a very high price to pay for an increased risk of traumatic head injuries and fatalities.

Many metal bats are exceedingly springy composite bats that literally function as a trampoline launching the ball. At the very least, metal bats should be limited to conform to specifications that approximate wood models and/or carry clear warnings of the risk posed from the increased speed of baseballs hit by metal bats. It also is worth noting that many children in youth leagues may not appreciate the nature of the increased risk even with a warning. If your child has been injured in a sports-related accident, including injuries caused by a metal bat, the experienced Georgia personal injury lawyers at Montlick and Associates offer a free case evaluation so that we can determine whether you may have a right to financial compensation from the bat manufacturer or other possible negligent parties such as the school district, coaches, sports league or other parties.

Distracted driving is still a major problem in Dallas-Fort Worth

Than Fort Worth personal injury lawyer one my biggest worry distracted for public safety driving epidemic. I'm far from alone in my concern as celebrities like Justin Bieber and the Texas spoke Rangers Derek Holland also against SMS while driving. You can display the results of a survey published this week by GMAC Insurance have seen indicating that the number of people with a cell phone is declining while behind the wheel. As fantastic as this post however, I am skeptical of the results of the study.

dd%20729.jpg

Respondents at the age of total 5,130 driver of nationwide, 75% of drivers 16 and 17 claim that they never use their smart phones while driving. GMAC attributes this apparent result to increasing parental pressure not to use handheld devices while driving. I certainly agree that the use of family and social pressure not to a phone can help, reduction of young drivers, but I think that GMAC the claim that distracted driving is reduced is more than a little optimistic.

According to the same survey almost 66% of all age groups said they regularly phoning while driving and give 80% finished for reading and sending text messages while at the traffic lights. In my book, distracted driving is still. Every time you take your attention away from the road are your ability to safely work your vehicle affect.

I am glad that the dangers of driving distracted are more publicity, but it's still a big problem. Heavy truck and bus still need stronger safety regulations

Heavy truck and bus still need stronger safety regulations

Tour buses carry more than 750 million passengers per year, and big rigs and semi truck carrying millions of dollars were. But with fatalities and serious injuries, which is still on the highways, there is a greater need than ever security education and laws in these industries. Recently, travel the national transportation and Safety Board (NTSB), the truck & bus safety gave Forum to address security issues on commercial vehicles.

The Forum presentations "advocates a comprehensive approach to security, a more robust system carrier supervision, active management of driver fatigue and adoption of safety management systems", said Robert Sumwalt, Board member of the NTSB.

Also leads the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) study designed to prevent that truck rollover and implementation of crash avoidance systems. A large percentage of all trucks accidents make rollovers and loss of-control crashes. Stability control systems at least 28 percent of rollover and loss of-control crashes could reduce the NHTSA says. The NHTSA studies will identify also security technologies, which will warn drivers of impending collisions and automatically brakes or slow the vehicle. The NHTSA supported in omnibus bills, the lap and shoulder seat belts.

Many of the measures to go along with the Department of transportation (DOT) Motorcoach safety plan, but that feels hard to some slow actions implement. "Even where the DOT specific dates for some tasks, such as initiating Rulemaking require electronic recording devices on omnibus, it has taken is still not completed this new, important security efforts delayed the further implementation," said U.S. Senator Frank R. The point is spot checks are omnibus implementation this summer and also Congress for zero tolerance policy DOT asks entitled, take dangerous bus driver from the road type. Marin County California is still vulnerable to motorcycle accidents

Marin County California is still vulnerable to motorcycle accidents

Mexican trucks still not safe for us!

Mexican trucks still not safe for us!

Posted on 25 April 2011 by Morgan Adams

The point is to enable again Mexican trucks full access to the United States under NAFTA. The proposed pilot program is available here. This was a bad idea in 2007, as I originally blogged on the topic here, and remains, today set a bad idea for reasons listed below:

Mexican companies have a process proposed 3-month period in the first phase only require three inspections per month during this period. In the second stage falling inspections, and the company more and unsafe trucks can run now, if they want to. After 18 months, the third phase goes into force, and after a check of conformity of the carrier extensive operational authority is given. Nothing prevents that Mexican society of 1-2-truck for the first time running, and then running hundreds of unsafe truck, as soon as power of Attorney given. This is only one of many possible fraud under this erroneous program can be run.The DOT Inspector General found in 2009, that the Mexican CDL database had problems with information and lack of information contained within the system.May be more than a CDL, hampered Mexican drivers which track dangerous truck driver with these licenses. This is for us CDL Treiber.Es still a problem, the implementation is more appropriately safe and efficient bus and lorry inspections at the border. The facilities and equipment are still Laking for a complete review Programm.Ausgebildete DOT inspection personnel are not sufficient to check a large number of trucks and buses. Today, check 1-2% of the truck in the United States. In the last ten years, how many more trained DOT inspectors were filed at the border? Who is looking at the DOT budget can quickly say that the number of inspectors is not increased over the years. In 1998 found 50% of the Mexican truck in order to service at the border.A position had 1,300 trucks every day with only an inspector (an inspector can do on a day of the IG Office 10-14-truck) and no inspectors had some sites.  U.S. truck have brakes managed by us certified brake inspectors, not Mexican truck companies. U.S. drivers are inscribed with their driving history for employers in the job of screening program (PSP), Mexican truck driver not. Controlled by the point in their business really DOT inspectors in Mexico we want Mexican company at their headquarters inspection?   Must be Mexican company certainly, but how sure? US companies have inspections and are of size, with most:

a. unsafe driving

b. tired driving

c. driver fitness

d. drugs and alcohol

e. vehicle maintenance

f. securing and load

g. crash history

In short, this is a bad idea. Good luck to find the Mexican driver after a wreck. Best of luck, with the deposit by a custodian of records somewhere in Mexico! Injured Americans have to pay more to get far less justice and it could be prevented all.

Currently almost 4,000 people a year die tractor trailers such as system crashes that safer U.S. inspected. Want to we really be there to find out how much is worse in this programme of NAFTA? I predict that the number of deaths rise on our highways about two years into force went into this program to it. I hope I me mad, and even more that this is never in force!

Now, call your Senators and congressmen and ask them to vote against!

STILL UNCERTAIN KENWORTH TRUCK COMPANY KNOWINGLY RENT

STILL UNCERTAIN KENWORTH TRUCK COMPANY KNOWINGLY RENT

Written on 4 June 2011 by Morgan Adams

Lets face it, there are good truck driver (I represent a lot of them if they get hurt through unsafe truck drivers.) and then there are people who should drive a tractor trailer, much less a tricycle not. The second category of the truck driver threatened my family and my friends along the way. So what do?

Well, if you are a truck company Manager is the first thing, that you do rent safe drivers. (The second thing you can do a reasonable education but can save that for another day.) In 2008, there were 4.9 million commercial drivers. Despite the large number of drivers of truck companies have almost 100% turnover of drivers a year - and a driver shortage is expected by the industry. This means that a truck company has each driver in your fleet replace every year. Some companies simply rent from the bottom of the barrel as drivers get harder to find.

The FMCSA agrees that safe driver hire is extremely important in the prevention of wrecks. It has therefore set up a pre-employment screening program (PSP) enable to check crash truck company drivers and safety records from BEFORE you rent it. So we consider there are nearly 5 million drivers and 100% turnover, should it right nearly 5 million drivers security checks? False!  Checked only 7.6 the truck driver, or 380,000, were before the last year set out! (Transport topics, 30 May 2011, p4) Check out why, I think the driver not they? Bad driver work cheaper wages down in the industry for good safe professional drivers to keep and put more money into the pockets of the truck companies.

Keep once again move the wheels and the money trumps putting safe drivers behind the wheels and pay them fairly.

Lets face it, there are good truck drivers (I represent a lot of them when they get hurt by unsafe truck drivers.) and then there are folks that shouldn't drive a tricycle much less a tractor trailer. The latter category of truck drivers endangers my friends on the road and my family. So what to do?

Well, if you are a trucking company executive, the first thing you can do is hire safe drivers. (The second thing you can is provide adequate training but lets save that for another day.) In 2008 there were 4.9 million of commercial drivers. Despite the large number of drivers, trucking companies have almost 100% turnover of drivers every year - and a driver shortage is anticipated by the industry. That means that a trucking company has to replace each driver in their fleet every year. As drivers get harder to find, some companies simply hire from the bottom of the barrel.

The FMCSA agrees that hiring safe drivers is critically important in avoiding wrecks. It has therefore set up a pre employment screening program (PSP) to allow trucking companies to check drivers crash and safety records out BEFORE they hire them. So if we consider there are almost 5 million drivers, and 100% turnover, there should be almost 5 million driver safety checks right? Wrong!  Only 7.6 of truck drivers, or 380,000 were checked out before being hired last year! (Transportation topics, May 30, 2011, p4) The reason I believe they dont check out drivers? Bad drivers work cheaper, keeping wages down across the industry for good safe drivers and putting professional more money into the pockets of trucking companies.

Once again keeping the wheels moving, and making money, wins out over putting safe drivers behind the wheels and paying them fairly.
