San Francisco bike accident death ignites helmet debate

Nancy HO, last week by a truck at the corner of Fremont and mission killed. Da Ho wore no helmet, re-ignited widely motorcycle accident reported a battle helmet requirements in the middle of a deep divide between safety advocates and the many in the cycling community. Not yet a mandate helmet requirement, and the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and the Bicycle Coalition of California have not announced their positions to the bicycle helmet laws California. But in the face of the HOS's fatal motorcycle accident last week, others are the discussion in full force.
This argument is exactly the motorcycle helmet debate in question here in California. A page links to reports that helmets reduce head injuries and life save, while the other side argues that the statistics the importance of the helmets, and also, that over-state want what not to do it is to be said. Advocates of a national helmet law point to studies that show that Bike Helmets a serious motorcycle accident to 65 per cent can be reduced the chances of death after. But critics, including many in San Francisco Bicycle community, such a law say it could reduce dangerous to make the number of cyclists on the street and city.
Note that "helmets are padding;" You are not armor "California public health consultant Peter Jacobsen, says a statewide helmet law will make the streets for cyclists less secure.", Under similar legislation in Australia and New Zealand, such as bicycle passenger numbers deleted 33 per cent, a major decline considering that many analysts are agreed that improve bicycle safety, if there are more cyclists on the streets.
Randy Swart, Director of the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute acknowledges that a helmet law could carry unintended circumstances as the cyclists subliminal reasons, take more risks. But, he adds, used a similar argument against a proposed seatbelt law was later proved wrong. And you they take a step further, too drunk driving laws. No one would argue that driving sober is a false sense of security driver and driver leads to take more risks behind the wheel. Cyclists and both drivers are not likely their lives in danger simply because they are more protected by a safety belt or helmet.
A bike helmet survey, this year, we have found that regular cyclists universal bicycle helmet law are divided on the perceived benefits of California. But there is a point that almost everyone could agree on: children under 18 therefore obliged should wear helmets. California requires mandatory helmet for cyclists under 17 already, so that this unscientific statistics will have a significant impact not on a national law for all ages. But it indicates that at the end of the day, the most cyclists know that cycling can be dangerous if the security risk not being taken seriously.
So whether California decides to implement a helmet law for all age groups, reduce the risk of head injury sustained in a bicycle accident by a helmet every time when to get on the bike commute to work, ride to the House of a friend or go to get some exercise.
