OIDA ALMOST GETS IT RIGHT ON MEXICAN TRUCKING

Posted on July 6, 2011 by Morgan Adams Recently Todd Spencer, vice president of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OIDA) stated "This program [full access to the US of Mexican domiciled trucking companies] will jeopardize the livelihoods of tens of thousands of U.S. based small-business truckers and professional truck drivers and undermine the standard of living for the rest of the driver community."  He failed to add that these trucks will be dangerous and the Mexican truck driver's likely to be more accident prone. It is not just jobs that are going to be lost, it is also going to be lives.

On a separate note do we really believe that the problems we have in the US with the http://www.safersys.org/ statistics (which the industry blames on the states poor record keeping) are somehow going to be solved, or bettered by the Mexican counterparts? Does anyone believe Mexican record keeping will be close to being as good as what we have in the US?  And what about records? Will all the driver qualification files be in Spanish? Are American citizens, who have already been injured by Mexican trucks, really going to have to pay to translate every document? This is a bad law!

Mexican trucks still not safe for us!

Mexican trucks still not safe for us!

Posted on 25 April 2011 by Morgan Adams

The point is to enable again Mexican trucks full access to the United States under NAFTA. The proposed pilot program is available here. This was a bad idea in 2007, as I originally blogged on the topic here, and remains, today set a bad idea for reasons listed below:

Mexican companies have a process proposed 3-month period in the first phase only require three inspections per month during this period. In the second stage falling inspections, and the company more and unsafe trucks can run now, if they want to. After 18 months, the third phase goes into force, and after a check of conformity of the carrier extensive operational authority is given. Nothing prevents that Mexican society of 1-2-truck for the first time running, and then running hundreds of unsafe truck, as soon as power of Attorney given. This is only one of many possible fraud under this erroneous program can be run.The DOT Inspector General found in 2009, that the Mexican CDL database had problems with information and lack of information contained within the system.May be more than a CDL, hampered Mexican drivers which track dangerous truck driver with these licenses. This is for us CDL Treiber.Es still a problem, the implementation is more appropriately safe and efficient bus and lorry inspections at the border. The facilities and equipment are still Laking for a complete review Programm.Ausgebildete DOT inspection personnel are not sufficient to check a large number of trucks and buses. Today, check 1-2% of the truck in the United States. In the last ten years, how many more trained DOT inspectors were filed at the border? Who is looking at the DOT budget can quickly say that the number of inspectors is not increased over the years. In 1998 found 50% of the Mexican truck in order to service at the border.A position had 1,300 trucks every day with only an inspector (an inspector can do on a day of the IG Office 10-14-truck) and no inspectors had some sites.  U.S. truck have brakes managed by us certified brake inspectors, not Mexican truck companies. U.S. drivers are inscribed with their driving history for employers in the job of screening program (PSP), Mexican truck driver not. Controlled by the point in their business really DOT inspectors in Mexico we want Mexican company at their headquarters inspection?   Must be Mexican company certainly, but how sure? US companies have inspections and are of size, with most:

a. unsafe driving

b. tired driving

c. driver fitness

d. drugs and alcohol

e. vehicle maintenance

f. securing and load

g. crash history

In short, this is a bad idea. Good luck to find the Mexican driver after a wreck. Best of luck, with the deposit by a custodian of records somewhere in Mexico! Injured Americans have to pay more to get far less justice and it could be prevented all.

Currently almost 4,000 people a year die tractor trailers such as system crashes that safer U.S. inspected. Want to we really be there to find out how much is worse in this programme of NAFTA? I predict that the number of deaths rise on our highways about two years into force went into this program to it. I hope I me mad, and even more that this is never in force!

Now, call your Senators and congressmen and ask them to vote against!

The DOT strikes again, Mexican trucks full access to that allow United States under NAFTA. The proposed pilot program is available here. This was a bad idea in 2007, as I originally blogged on the topic here, and remains today set a bad idea for reasons listed below:

Nothing is preventing the Mexican society because, with 1 or 2 truck for the first period, then hundreds of unsafe trucks after authorization has been given. This is only one of many possible fraud under this erroneous program can be run.The Inspector General found DOT, in 2009, that included the Mexican CDL database with information and lack of information within the system.Mexican drivers may be more than a CDL, so harder to dangerous truckers with these licenses to track it. This is CDL for us invalid driver. There are still sufficient perform a problem bus and lorry inspections at the border safely and efficiently. The facilities and equipment are still Laking insufficient for a complete review Programm.Ausgebildete DOT inspection personnel, to make a large number of trucks and buses.
