Elderly Man Hospitalized from Hit and Run
AppId is over the quota
Following a Philadelphia Phillies game, 91-year-old Raymond DiCrenscenzo of Bucks County was struck by a vehicle just outside of Citizens Bank Park on September 20th. DiCrenscenzo admitted that he was jaywalking on Pattison Avenue in Philadelphia when he was hit by a pickup truck, whose driver proceeded to flee the scene of the accident.
The elderly victim was hospitalized, receiving 6 staples in his head from the accident, but didn’t let that hold him back from returning to see the Phillies play the following day. The authorities have identified the driver of the vehicle involved, and no charges have been filed against him at this point.
We are thankful that Raymond DiCrenscenzo was able to recover from the accident so quickly, and that no life-threatening injuries were sustained.
According to a report done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 19% of pedestrian fatalities in the United States involved older people aged 65 and over. This same demographic accounted for approximately 8% of the pedestrians injured in traffic crashes in 2009.
Section 44 of Chapter 37 of Pennsylvania state law states that “the driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to or death of any person or damage to any vehicle or other property which is driven or attended by any person shall give his name, address and the registration number of the vehicle he is driving.” The same section goes on to state that the driver “shall give the information and upon request exhibit the license and information relating to financial responsibility to any police officer at the scene of the accident or who is investigating the accident and shall render to any person injured in the accident reasonable assistance, including the making of arrangements for the carrying of the injured person to a physician, surgeon or hospital for medical or surgical treatment if it is apparent that treatment is necessary or if requested by the injured person.” The driver guilty of the Philadelphia hit-and-run failed to take the proper steps following the accident and now faces criminal charges for his negligence.
