Everyone knows that some jobs carry more inherent risk of serious injury than others, and one of the industries that carries higher than average risk for workers is the construction industry.  As a Seattle construction accident attorney, I often see some of the negative repercussions of the things that can happen to construction workers doing their job.  A man was killed on Thursday morning in a construction accident near the top floor of the McGuire Building in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood, according to Inquisitr.com.  The McGuire is due to be demolished because it has been determined to be unsafe.  After the accident, the man was breathing and talking to his co-workers despite a neck injury, but by the time the Seattle Fire Department arrived, he was unconscious.  Medics were unable to revive him.   I wish I could say that a tragedy like this was a totally isolated incident, but unfortunately, fatal construction accidents do happen.

Looking at some reports on accident statistics provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2009 there were over 90,000 missed work injuries to construction workers, and in 2010 there were 751 fatal occupational injuries to construction workers in the United States.  The article from Inquisitr.com reports that Thursday’s accident was the 32nd work-related fatality this year in Washington alone, and the 4th to a construction worker.  Four may not seem like very many, but when it comes to fatal occupational accidents in one state in one industry, it is four too many.  And it is certainly too many for the four Washington families that are left to grieve the loss of their loved ones.

While most construction accidents do not have such terrible outcomes as this one, there are many that nevertheless leave people, both workers and passersby, seriously injured.  If you or a loved one has been injured in a construction accident, you need an aggressive attorney to assess your situation, and help you decide whether there has been negligence.  Jason Epstein is an experienced Seattle construction accident attorney who will work to get you the compensation you deserve.  For more information, and a FREE CONSULTATION, call Jason at Premier Law Group at (206)285-1743.
