Motorcycle Crash Kills Operator and Injures Passenger in San Clemente

October 29, 2011 - According to reports a motorcyclist was killed during a San Clemente crash and his passenger was injured. According to Sheriff’s officer Lt. Jim England the motorcycle crash occurred at early Saturday morning on Avenida Cordoba when the motorcycle was traveling toward the intersection of Calle Alcazar, at approximately 2:00 a.m.

The motorcycle struck a guardrail causing the motorcyclist and his passenger to be thrown from the bike. According to supervising deputy coroner Larry Esslinger, the motorcyclist was transported to Mission Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:54 a.m. The motorcyclist has been identified as Christopher Cate age 23 of San Clemente.

Cate’s passenger’s identity has not been release, but was identified as a female passenger that was transported to the hospital, where she was treated and released. According to Lt. England, Cate’s was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and the female passenger was wearing a helmet. Lt. England stated that authorities believe that speed was a factor in the cause of the San Clemente motorcycle crash.
