Although drivers of trucks have been obliged, to drugs and alcohol tests for the past 15 years, there were some gaps in the system, which allows many of this drug and alcohol abuse users slip through the cracks and continue to drive.A Bill, called the safe streets Act is considered at present, that which eliminate some going these loopholes would to drugs and alcohol reporting. The Bill is sponsored by Senators Mark Pryor (D - AR), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), j., Ben Nelson(D-Neb.), and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.). The American Trucking Association supports the Bill fully, that "this law will lead safer streets and a more secure truck industry".

The problem today

Recent studies have shown that 68,000 of 3.4 million truck drivers drive tractor on the road today have tested positive for drug use. Are set, professional drivers even if you're not sure to drive:

After their recent positive drug test results, not on their future employers report many of the riders in search. Employers (carrier) not thoroughly check background of this new driver.Remove self-employed drivers, which are negligent not voluntarily itself from the service.

The solution

Here is what would offer the new Bill called the safe streets Act:

Set up a low-cost database of drug testing information for professional drivers drug results. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recommends this database. Do you need medical review officers, employers and service agent to report positive test results for drugs and alcohol, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).Require employers who setting check database before the interested workers, and each year driver with the company are busy. All the data on tests or all cancellations would contain the test are recorded in the database. The driver need test data that is not more than three years old, and they must be willing participants. Driver must manage recent entries.

Some truck accidents are caused by negligent drivers that could have been avoided the responsible truck company had carried out the correct setting of driver background checks. These new rules can reduce the drivers that have tested positive for illegal drugs, which are behind the wheel of tractor-trailers.
