Police in the Los Angeles area are turning to the public to help find a hit-and-run motorist. The offender collided with a bicyclist Wednesday, Dec. 14, seriously injuring the traveler, and then fleeted the scene, according to ABC News. The bicycle accident occurred in Tustin, California, just south of Los Angeles.
The bicyclist was traveling ordinarily when he was struck by a red 2010 Ford Mustang. The vehicle is reported to be a rental car, with license number 6LLX505. The motorist was described as a male driver who allegedly caused the bicycle accident and then fled the scene of the crime.
Southern Californians who have tips in connection to the suspected offender are urged to contact LA police.

In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 2 percent of all 2009 traffic accidents involved a bicycle, and over 51,000 bicyclists were injured in 2010. Demonstrators and driver clash at Occupy Oakland

The demonstrators at Occupy Oakland make up a group that is nothing if not diverse. As noted in most every major media outlet, no demographic or ideology has a monopoly on the protests, and this is especially true in Oakland, where peaceful protestors and people just looking to stir stuff up mingle and march in front of government buildings.
Unlike in many major and even minor cities, Occupy protesters in Oakland have spent time not only in public spaces, but in the streets of downtown and Oakland and even the port area. While marching is an accepted and expected element of non-violent protest, the more aggressive elements of Occupy Oakland crowds may be creating a situation that forces confrontations not just with police officers and government officials, but with drivers making their way through town.
The scene turned ugly Wednesday night, when the Mercury News reports a man was intentionally struck by a motorist at 11th and Broadway, right downtown. According to a witness on the scene, the driver of a Mercedes Benz became irritated by protestors making their way in the street from Frank Ogawa Plaza to the Port of Oakland and “deliberately ran over” two of them. The symbolism is impossible to miss.
An eye-witness told Mercury News that “The guy who got hit by the car hit the hood of the car, and then the driver hit the gas. This is a situation where you have two people with bad decision making skills.”
After striking the pedestrians, the male driver switched seats with his female passenger. However they could not make it through the crowd, which immediately swarmed the vehicle and pulled its occupants out as medics arrived to care for the injured demonstrators.
When police arrived, the driver was released. Perhaps law enforcement officers felt they had enough to deal with already.
“Moving forward, we still have the evening to get through,” City Administrator Deanna Santana told the Mercury. “I need to reinforce what we need to ensure our law enforcement can maintain public safety: We need no fires, no vandalism, no rocks, bottles or human waste thrown at officers. We need to enforce traffic and crowd control. With that, we can have more peaceful demonstrations.”
There’s an uneasy balance between taking to the streets to be heard and seen and inviting anarchy and the type of thoughtless, dangerous actions exhibited by the driver who wantonly ran through two protestors. Clearly, the usual law enforcement response would not have been to let such an incident go unpunished. But there’s no widely understood protocol for drivers and passengers in this situation.
As the protests show no sign of diminishing or losing momentum, drivers should expect delays in the downtown and port areas and are probably better off just avoiding the scene all together. Pedestrians may feel safe in a large group, but the reality is, any time you walk down the middle of a usually busy street in a unsanctioned march—the kind that really gets everyone’s attention—you take your safety into your own hands.

October 22, 2011- According to reports a pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver suspected to be under the influence at the time of the crash.
According to Anaheim Police Department a man was struck and killed at approximately 5:15 a.m. in the 500 block of Beach Boulevard in the vicinity north of Orange Avenue and south of Lincoln Avenue.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Bob Dunn stated that the Saturday morning incident involved a 2000 Chevrolet S 10 pickup truck that was traveling northbound on Beach Boulevard when the pedestrian described to be a man in his 50’s was walking in the road.
The pedestrian that was struck was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Dunn stated. The driver was identified as Alexandro Cedillo age 36 of Stanton, who was arrested at the scene of the accident for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance. Cedillo was arrested and transported to the Anaheim City jail.
According to Sgt. Dunn, investigators believe the man might have been struck by other vehicles and have spoken with one witness and are looking for other witnesses and drivers. Motorcycle Police Officer Injured by Driver He Stopped that Took Off

November 2, 2011 - According to reports a police officer was injured when hit by a driver he pulled over for a traffic violation. According to Garden Grove Police Department the police officer was injured in the 13000 block of Brookhurst Street in Garden Grove at approximately 9:33 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Garden Grove Police Lt. Jeff Nightengale stated that the motorcycle officer stopped the driver for not having his seatbelt on, who then fled from a parking lot where he had pulled over. The motorcycle officer was struck by the vehicle suffering injuries to the legs.
According to Lt. Nightengale the officer is expected to recover, but he was unsure of the extent of the motorcycle officer’s injuries. The Garden Grove police have identified the driver as 28 year old Marcos Gonzalez, who is described as 5 feet, eight inches tall and approximately 220 pounds. At the time that the motorcycle officer was struck the vehicle was a 2002 four door green Infiniti, according to police.
According to Lt. Nightengale the information about the driver and the vehicle was obtained from the ticket the police officer was writing at the time he was struck. Police have not found any outstanding warrants on the driver.
Lt. Nightengale said the officer noticed that the driver appeared to be acting nervous, at which time the officer asked the man to step outside of the vehicle and patted him down. The officer radioed for backup and the man ran back to the car. The officer and the man struggled at the door of the vehicle, when the driver put the car in reverse knocking the officer down with the open door. The driver then put the vehicle in drive and drove over the officers legs.

Fatal Carroll County Bus Driver Was Sleepy from Taking Cough Syrup

The issue of sleepy drivers is a matter of great concern that can cause Georgia auto accidents that result in serious injury or wrongful death.

Hit-and-Run Driver Slams into Dallas Police Officer

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, a hit-and-run driver crashed head-on into a Dallas police officer at the intersection of Inwood Drive and Forest Lane. The police officer, Sr. Cpl. Charles Fleming, was in his squad car heading west on Forest Lane when the suspect ran through a red light and hit him.
The police car was crushed in the front but the suspect’s car, a solid blue pickup truck made in the late 90s, was also severely damaged. The police officer was taken to Baylor Hospital but has already been released and is recovering after this hit-and-run car accident.
Dallas police now need our help in locating the hit-and-run driver. Police said they are looking for a black male that is about 50 years old and driving a blue pickup truck. If you know anything about this car wreck, police are urging you to call DPD at 214-670-5817.

Crash Kills Two Women—Teen Driver Suspected of Driving Under the Influence

October 4, 2011-According to reports two women were killed in a collision with a teen driver suspected of driving under the influence. According to Anaheim Police Sgt. Rick Martinez the accident occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. in the 1600 block of Harbor Boulevard in the vicinity of Disneyland on Saturday.
The two women reported to be homeless were in a cross walk, according to police reports on Monday, when they were struck. The women were on the eastside of Harbor Boulevard at the time they were struck by a Chevrolet Astro van that was traveling southbound on Harbor Boulevard.
According to Sgt. Martinez one of the women was thrown into the southbound lanes of traffic, a distance from where she was struck and the other woman was thrown into the left-turn lane in the northbound lanes.

One of the women has been identified as Hengameh Saghafi, age 56 and the other woman’s identity has not been released until her next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the Astro van was arrested and booked in the Orange County Juvenile Hall. The teen was charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, causing a collision and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Driver Arrested for DUI After Crash Kills Two and Injures One

October 8, 2011 - According to reports a driver involved in a deadly crash was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. According to police the deadly crash occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. while the driver was traveling east on Wilshire Boulevard and the intersection of Park View Street.
According to police 27 year old David Lee Young, of Garden Grove was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities suspect Young was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the white pickup truck he was driving, causing it to car crash into a cement wall.
According to Los Angeles Fire Department Battalion Chief Fred Mathis, stated that firefighters at the scene of the crash had to extract four people from the pickup truck using the Jaws of Life. Two of the passengers in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, another was in critical condition and transported to LA County Hospital. One person was treated and released.
Chief Mathis, said that one of the victims that were pronounced dead at the scene had been ejected from the pickup truck and another died inside of the vehicle.
According to police a 23 year old man in the crash that sustained only minor injuries that was treated and released was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The two passengers that were killed in the crash have been identified as 24 year old Faiga Tauiliili and 28 year old Loane Lui Nuumau, II.
Young, who was the only other survivor in the crash and the driver of the pickup truck was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence resulting in deaths. Driver Involved in Fatal Infant Death Files Lawsuit Against the City of Huntington Beach

September 29, 2011 - According to reports a woman that was involved in an accident leading to the death of an infant has filed a lawsuit against the city of Huntington Beach.
According to reports Caryl Johnson age 53 of Huntington Beach has filed a lawsuit against the city of Huntington Beach, stemming from a chain reaction accident last year. The accident killed an infant from Australia, while being pushed in a stroller by her mother.
Johnson’s lawsuit filed September 16th in Orange County Superior Court states her car was struck from behind while she was stopped by a distracted driver, causing her vehicle to be pushed into the crosswalk and into the pedestrians.
Johnson claims to have been permanently disabled and suffers emotional scars; her husband is also listed as a plaintiff in the suit and alleges loss of consortium against the defendants. He lists that his wife is unable to perform duties as a spouse, work or services. ?
According to police reports, September 7, 2010 at the time of the accident, Johnson complained of neck and back pain.
Johnson’s lawsuit is suing Huntington Beach for allegedly maintaining a dangerous intersection at the location where the accident occurred on Croupier Drive and Sprindale Street. The lawsuit also names driver Robert Anthony Casares, age 50 of Huntington Beach for negligence.
According to police reports Casares who was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on Springdale Drive, caused the car accident when he did not see Johnson stopped in front of him. Casares was fixing his laptop from falling off the seat after going over railroad tracks on Springdale, according to police reports. Dallas Road Worker Seriously Hurt By Drunk Driver

Yesterday I wrote about a city of Irving worker getting hit by a suspected drunk driver while picking up highway cones and it seems another accident just like it happened in Dallas early this morning. A Dallas road construction worker was seriously hurt after a motorist hit him.
Dallas highway crews had the two right lanes of I-30 near St. Francis Avenue coned off when a Honda drifted into the construction zone and hit the worker. When police got to the scene of the accident they performed a field sobriety test on the Honda’s driver and what did they find? Well for one, that the guy was intoxicated and also a little white powdery substance in his pocket. Now the impaired driver faces an Intoxication Assault charge and possible more charges as authorities test the white powder in his pocket to see if it’s illegal drugs. (My guess is yes.)
Drunk or drugged drivers don’t only face criminal legal action against them for their crimes; their victims can take civil action against them, too. 18-Wheeler Driver Killed In Arlington Wreck

As a Dallas-Fort Worth personal injury lawyer, I’ve warned numerous times of the very real danger posed to cars and motorcycles alike by the huge 18-wheeler trucks which travel throughout the metroplex in ever-increasing numbers. A smaller vehicle doesn’t stand a chance against a much larger commercial truck and it’s inevitable that significant property damage and personal injuries are going to result.
Yesterday, however, a professional truck driver lost his life in a single vehicle wreck in Arlington. Police report that at approximately 4.15pm, a semi was driving west on Interstate 20, near Texas 360 when, the big rig somehow drifted off the highway and crashed on the roadside, apparently suffering severe damage to the cab portion of the truck. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the deceased trucker nor the cause of the crash.
While I would like to express my sympathy to the family and friends of the driver whose life was lost, I think we should also be thankful that no one else was injured in this terrible accident. This terrible tragedy serves to remind us all that despite their giant trucks, these men and women are just as vulnerable as the rest of us in the event of a collision.

The video, which was shot in Washington DC, clearly shows that the cyclists is passing a series of parked vehicles when a pickup driver verbally and physically assaults him, resulting in the cyclist crashing to the road and the hit-and-run driver disappearing into the distance.

New Jersey Driver Indicted for Deadly Crash

A New Jersey man was indicted on Monday by a Monmouth County grand jury, facing several charges pertaining to a fatal crash on the Garden State Parkway earlier this year. Eric Periera, 23 years old of Jackson, was under the influence of alcohol when he rear-ended a van near mile marker 120 in Aberdeen Township on April 2nd.
The van, driven by Kevin Donnelly of Middletown, hit a guardrail and flipped over, hitting another vehicle heading southbound on the same road. Donnelly was killed in the crash, and two of his passengers along with the driver of the third vehicle sustained injuries from the New Jersey car accident. Periera faces charges for one count of vehicular homicide and three counts of assault by auto.

Driver Blinded By Sun Hits and Critically InjuredThree Children

September 27, 2011 - According to reports three children were struck and critically injured, by a driver that was blinded by the sun. According to authorities the accident occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. in the 1400 block of West Temple Street in Echo Park Tuesday morning.
The driver that struck and seriously injured three children claimed to be blinded by the sun. The children ages 5, 10 and 16, two of whom are sisters, were in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident, according to authorities.
The three girls that were struck by the vehicle were transported by paramedics to area hospitals and are listed in serious condition. According to witnesses there have been complaints in the past about the intersection and there have been repeated requests for the city to install a traffic signal.
