We have written security for senior drivers, after the loss of vision, motor skills or intellectual capacity, much about car. But a current Los Angeles Times report should be noted that senior citizens are also at risk of road accidents outside their car. In fact of the last month of "Dangerous by design" study of fatalities from 2000 to 2009, seniors included a disproportionate 22 per cent of the pedestrian deaths, at the same time to 13% of the population. This morning, a group of San Francisco senior citizens, accidents bring along pedestrian attention to senior planning a road safety event with the aptly named "Deathrace 2011."

DeathRace will be at the corner of third and Yosemite at 10: 30 today morning in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood streets. Senior action network chose this location because it is known driver and dangerous crosswalks in popular close to the city senior centers and for acceleration. The protest has perfect timing. Last month, for example, more than 50 senior citizens were in a pedestrian accident injured, and 16 hospitalized or were killed. In the last decade mourned San Francisco senior citizens of a death rate of 8.1 seniors per 100,000, almost three times the national average for seniors (2.92) and overall pedestrian deaths in San Francisco (2.9).

Dangerous by design fingers San Francisco as the country of 4th dangerous to pedestrian deaths. And San Francisco, California as it is dangerous.

"Roads are no longer primarily for traffic as quickly as possible, transition" Noah Budnick said, Deputy Director of the New York-based transport alternatives. "Our streets are, where we live in this city, and on foot, the primary is what people do." "But older people simply not enough time to cross the street." The same applies here in San Francisco, and DeathRace plans, they emphasize that civil servants should plan streets for the safety of the pedestrians of all ages.

We have seen far to many San Francisco deaths pedestrian zone in the first months of the year 2011. I hope the senior action network DeathRace 2011 urgently needed attention reducing pedestrian deaths for all ages including seniors will bring.
