Three pedestrians were killed on Monday, Dec. 13 when they were struck by an Amtrak train headed from San Diego to Los Angeles, according to KTLA News in Los Angeles. October 13, 2011- According to reports two Amtrak trains collided resulting in at least 18 injuries. According to authorities two Amtrak passenger trains collided in Oakland at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The Amtrack San Joaquin train was traveling at a slow speed when it struck the Coast Starlight train that was stationary, head-on. The San Joaquin train was carrying 8 passengers at the time of the crash and the Starlight train was carrying 137 passengers. The Starlight train was traveling from Los Angeles to Seattle and had made a scheduled stop in Oakland at the time of the head-on collision.
According to officials there were 18 people that were injured with non-life threatening injuries. Eleven people were treated at the scene of the collision and seven people were transported to the hospital. Officials stated that one of the injured people had a broken arm.
