Morning Traffic Accident Fatal for Big Rig Driver

September 26, 2011-According to reports an early morning crash was fatal for the driver of a big rig. According to the California Highway Patrol the big rig crash occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m. on northbound I-5 in the vicinity south of Vista Hermosa.
California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Goodwin said the truck driver pulled over and got out of his truck due to a mechanical problem, when he was struck by a BMW traveling in the No.4 lane that drifted onto the shoulder. The BMW driven by a 64 year old San Diego man sideswiped the side of the big rig and struck the driver.
The big rig driver identified by the Orange County Coroner’s Office was Ruben Mendoza Chavez age 31 from Tijuana, Mexico. The coroner’s office stated that Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
According to the California Highway Patrol the accident remains under investigation and an arrest was not made.
